What I enjoyed most in teaching fine art subjects like visual arts, music, and dance, among others, was that it gave every student the opportunity to share their gift and talents. There wasn’t a hierarchy of who was more gifted or qualified to tap into their own personal creative genius of expression. The same can be applied to everyday life when it comes to being a child of God, one of His amazing creations. Despite social class, race, religion, age, and all that we have created as humans to distinguish us in separation, Christ has use for each of us in His Kingdom of purpose. You’re not a waste of space in being one of God’s amazing creations, God has use for you!

Stepping Up!
I felt truly humbled recently when our youth minister asked me to lead the youth church for service, as he would be scheduled out of town. Although I am passionate about empowering young people and teaching, I sometimes feel a touch of nervousness before stepping in front of others with an occasional sense of doubt if I am worthy to do such a task. He shared that a guest minister would lead the morning’s message, so it took a little ease off. I came in the morning to set up and greet the fellow youth ministry volunteers and the band. I received a text that the guest minister wasn’t able to attend because he fell under the weather, and I was asked if I could cover the guest minister’s part in doing a short lesson.”Yikes!” I thought to myself with only 20 mins before service was to start, but I thought about the message I planned for the service of “Unlocking Your Spiritual Gifts” in finding humor in walking in God’s grace to follow through in being inspired to step up to the task without fear.

He Didn’t Call the Perfect
Oftentimes, we feel unworthy and unqualified for divine use because we focus on factors that perpetuate fear and foster false feelings of inadequacy.
The following things hold us back from being used by God:
- Dwelling on our past mistakes and magnifying our current personal challenges as a merit to discredit ourselves.
- Low self-esteem and lack of confidence.
- Procrastination and not being consistent with following through.
- Struggles with self- acceptance and ruminating from rejection experiences.

Personally, I have struggled with all of the above, and I know how it feels to be called, yet fight the Imposter Complex of feelings unqualified for the task, yet God calls on those who are chosen by him. Christ, sees value in all of his children in creating them for a purpose. I can acknowledge my hot mess moments from back in the day, from my past mistakes and shortcomings as a human. Not only that, but this motherhood journey has been a wild rollercoaster ride, and I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one saying that my blended family is a few fries short of a perfect happy meal. However, God often chooses those who are the least qualified to do amazing things, so that He can get the glory. Don’t second-guess yourself or your abilities. Know that God has use for you with your natural talents and spiritual gifting for the betterment of His Kingdom.
